The Exminster Clinic opened in November 2005 and is part of St Davids Veterinary Group. The clinic offers a comprehensive range of treatments, including scanning, xrays, dental procedures, blood sampling and analysis, vaccinations, which include a general health check, microchipping, dietary food and much much more. The clinic has the full support of St Davids Veterinary Hospital in Exeter where overnight hospitalisation is also available.
Georgie Lock BVSc, MRCVS qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2001 from Liverpool University with a degree in Veterinary Science. She also has experience working with large animals. Georgie joined our practice in 2007.
Louise Newman BVSc, BVetMed, MRCVS qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1990 from London University as a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Batchelor of Veterinary Medicine. She is also a trained veterinary acupuncturist (IVAS). Louise started at the Exminster Clinic when it opened in 2005.
Carmela Burgess BSc (Hons) BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2010. She started her career in a farm and poultry practice in Devon, before moving to a mixed practice where she worked with farm animals and horses, as well as cats, dogs and small furries. Here she developed her interest in small animal medicine, which led to the move to St Davids in September 2014. She splits her time between the Exeter and Exminster branches, and is currently studying for a advanced qualification in small animal medicine. She lives with her poultry-farmer husband, two crazy lurchers, old-timer collie and small flock of 'reject' hens, and in the spare time this leaves enjoys cycling, sailing and camping.
Qualified Veterinary Nurses
Jane Jones RVN qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2005 and joined St Davids in Sept 2014 from a practice in North Devon. As well as looking after the day patients at the Exminster branch she particularly enjoys running nursing clinics especially weight and diet clinics. At home near Okehampton she has a mad spaniel called Buzz and a more sedate collie cross called Chip, 2 cats who came from the Cats Protection, 2 ponies and a small flock of Greyface Dartmoor sheep. She also plays and coaches hockey and enjoys taking the dogs running on Dartmoor.
Stephanie Hicks RVN is one of our senior RVN's and has been nursing for 9 years. She is our in house pet health counsellor and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to nurse clinics. She also has a keen interest in first opinion surgical nursing. In her spare time she enjoys her two horses and her two dogs Rosa the weirmerana and Tullulah the springer spaniel. She also has a resuce Bengal called Jasper who came to the practice with 3 broken legs from a very nasty RTA. After no-one came forward for him, Stef nursed him back to full health. Stef works at both the Exminster Clinic and the hospital.
April Davis RVN qualified from Bicton College in 2007 and has a keen interest in teaching the student veterinary nurses and anesthetics. She joined the St Davids nursing team in 2014 and is our head nurse. April has a very cute but very naughty border terrier puppy called Ted and is currently taking on the challange of becoming a surfer!!! April mostly works at the hospital in Exeter, but can also be found at Exminster from time to time.
Louise Newman, one of the Exminster Veterinary Surgeons is also a Veterinary Acupuncturist having gained her IVAS certificate (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society). She has had many successes in the use of Acupuncture to treat painful backs, lameness and other ailments. She carries out Acupuncture sessions at Exminster during her routine consultations which last about 20-30 minutes. Please phone us for further information on 01392 422898 .
